Dutch sheerlegs operator Bonn & Mees has transported and instaled the new boomrest for Van Oord’s installation vessel Aeolus as part of a crane upgrade.
Van Oord announced the upgrade to the 1600t crane in September last year. Huisman designed and are building the new 133m long boom.
The new boomrest was fabricated at Damen Schiedam, from where it was transported by Bonn & Mees‘ floating sheerlegs crane Matador 3 to the Damen Verolme yard in Botlek.
Aeolus will be fit for duty with the new boom as from early 2023. The vessel will then be capable of installing the new generation 12-15MW turbines while maintaining its lifting capacity of 1,600t for foundation installations. Source: Bonn & Mees / HeavyLiftNews
