Hexicon and IX Wind team up on floating offshore wind in Taiwan

Hexicon and Dutch IX Wind will offer services for the planning and building of a 1,300+ MW floating offshore wind project in Taiwan.

The alliance, which was established in December 2022, will provide engineering, consulting, and project management services.

Hexicon works in Europe, Africa, Asia, and North America as a first-mover project developer for floating wind and a technology provider, and it currently has 17,000 MW of gross projects in development through a variety of collaborations.

With more than 15 years of experience in the field of renewable energy, IX Wind, a member of the IX Renewables group and a global consultancy and EPC-Management company, has been operating in Taiwan since 2012 and played a key role in the successful completion of the nation’s first offshore wind project.

This joint venture is well-positioned for success with the mix of local knowledge and offshore wind development competence, with commissioning for the project possibly starting as early as 2028.

“With Hexicon, we have found a knowledgeable and strong partner in this emerging floating wind market,” said Eric Kamphues, CEO of IX Wind. “Their track record of securing floating offshore wind projects in cooperation with large players is a testament to their expertise. Furthermore, there may be opportunities to implement their patented TwinWind foundations in the future.”
