Ron Davio, who had served as chairman of Amsterdam IJmuiden Offshore Ports (AYOP) for 12.5 years, delivered the gavel to Peter van de Meerakker, a former vice-chairman of AYOP, during the General Members’ Meeting on Fort Island in IJmuiden.
The presentation of the royal decoration Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau by Arthur van Dijk (Commissioner of the King of North Holland) and Frank Dales (mayor of the municipality of Velsen) at Ron Davio’s departure party on June 22 caught him off guard.
Since taking office in 2010, Ron Davio has been dedicated to the advancement of offshore wind development in general and the offshore association in particular. The North Sea Canal region’s wind energy has reached a point of full development and is prepared for the significant task of building new wind farms that must produce a total of 21 gigawatts of energy by 2030, the issue of decommissioning old production platforms, and the development of hydrogen, in part because of his conviction, connection skills, enthusiasm, and vision. The member network has grown from 25 to 125 members under his direction, and every link in the chain is represented. Since its inception in 1985, AYOP has been run under the Amports banner. Ron led the group toward independence in 2017, which had no negative effects on the group.
Ron also played a pioneering role on behalf of AYOP in the plans for the Energiehaven on the site of the former Averijhaven along with Port of Amsterdam, Zeehaven IJmuiden NV, the municipality of Velsen, and the province of North Holland. In order to effectively support the development of offshore wind energy, the new Energy Port’s area is required for the transshipment of components for wind farms and the realization of barges that had to be relocated as a result of the new Zeesluis IJmuiden’s arrival. Ron Davio was awarded the esteemed Harbor Medal for this in 2018.
Ron was given this award by Arthur van Dijk (Commissioner of the King of North Holland) and Frank Dales (mayor municipality of Velsen), among other things, for this as well as his unrelenting efforts for Telstar 1963 NV, Stichting Zeekadetkorps IJmond, Rabobank, Zeehaven IJmuiden NV, and Rotary Velsen, among others.
