Last week, two transformers were installed in the Hollandse Kust (west Beta) substation topside at At Equans’ yard in Hoboken, Belgium.
The two transformers wered supplied by Royal Smit. Each transformer measures 8.5m (l) by 5m (w) and 8m (H) and weigh around 300 tonnes. They were carefully hoisted through the opened roof of the fabrication hall and maneuvered into position.
The topside is being built by the Equans/Smulders contractor combination. The combination was also responsible for the construction of the topsides for Hollandse Kust (north) and (west Alpha).
The jacket foundation for the platform is currently being built at Smulders’ yard in Vlissingen. This steel structure will weigh around 2,300 tonnes and be 49 metres high. The jacket is scheduled to be installed in April 2024, some 50 km off the coast of Egmond aan Zee.
In 2025, the topside will be placed on the jacket. Two export cables will connect the offshore station to shore at Velsen. The installation of these cables will start next year. Preparations are already being made for these activities. The offshore platform will connect the wind turbines of RWE’s future OranjeWind offshore wind.
