On Thursday 28 March, Windplan Groen in the Dutch province of Flevoland, was officially put into operation during a festive gathering at the Aviodrome in Lelystad. With an installed capacity of 515 MW by 86 wind turbines, this makes Windplan Groen the largest onshore wind project in the Netherlands.
Nearly 200 invited guests attended the meeting, including the initiators, local and regional government representatives, but also involved contracting companies.
Windplan Groen is a repowering project in the eastern part of the province of Flevoland (municipalities of Dronten and Lelystad). Scattered solitairy wind turbines are being replaced by 86 new, more powerful wind turbines divided over 11 wind farms. The project is an initiative by Windkoepel Groen, an association with independent members, each operating or involved in the operation of their own wind farm. In total, more than 400 local residents are participating in Windplan Groen, of which around 200 via the Windshare platform. Windkoepel Groen worked closely together with local authorities.
The project received consent in September 2020. The first wind farm, Vires Venti, was completed in February 2023. Completion of the last wind turbines within the project was reached in November 2023, at the Hanze and Hondtocht Zuid wind farms. Sustainable energy developer Ventolines acted as project advisor in the development of the project and also in contract management.
Closed Distribution System
Eight of the 11 wind farms are connected to the so calles Gesloten Distributie Systeem (Closed Distribution System) on Olsterpad in Dronten, consisting of a transformer station and 46 kilometres of cabling. Via these cables and the transformer station, electricity generated by these wind farms, among others, is made suitable for delivery to TenneT-Liander’s substation, which then ensures transmission to the national grid.
Windplan Groen is one of four wind projects in the province of Flevoland.
