Heerema’s Thialf installs first foundations for EnBW’s He Dreiht offshore wind farm

Heerema’s heavy lift vessel Thialf successfully installed the first three monopile foundations and transition pieces at EnBW’s He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea last week.

This achievement sets the stage for the subsequent foundation installation cycle times for the remainder of the project. A further 61 monopiles and transition pieces will be installed over the summer.

Heerema is tasked to drive the monopiles, of approximately 70-meter long and 1350 metric tons, into the seabed using a hydraulic impact hammer. Heerema uses the double walled noise mitigation template specifically designed for this project – the T-NMS-10000, to stay below the German decibel limit.

He Dreiht is located around 90 kilometers northwest of the island of Borkum and 110 kilometers west of Helgoland. When completed, which is planned for the end of 2025, the wind farm is expected to have a capacity of over 960 MW, providing renewable energy for the equivalent of approximately 1.1 million households. As one of the first offshore wind farms to be built without state funding, it will instantly double EnBW’s offshore portfolio of 976 MW. Source: Heerema/EnBW
