Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced today that it is starting a study into the impact of wake effects on the energy yield of offshore wind farms.
In the coming years, the installed capacity of offshore wind energy in the Dutch North Sea will expand to 21 GW. This study, performed on behalf of the Ministry of Climate Policy and Green Growth, takes the wind farms of the 21 GW Roadmap into account.
Developments outside the Dutch North Sea are included as well if they influence the energy yield of Dutch wind farms.
Previous studies show that the increase in offshore wind energy has an effect on the energy yield. Relevant knowledge from these previous studies is also included in the current research.
The study is conducted by Whiffle, a Dutch specialist in weather forecasts and simulations. The results of the study are expected in the first half of 2025.
