A start was made this week on the dismantling of the Willem-Annapolder Wind Farm (WAP I) from 2003 on the Westerschelde in ‘s-Gravenpolder, in the Dutch province of Zeeland. With the dismantling of the first wind turbine, a start will also be made on the construction of the new wind farm: WAP II.
The current wind farm was built in 2003 and consists of 10 NEG Micon NM52 wind turbines with a capacity of 900kW. This is a repowering project in which the old wind turbines will make way for a new wind farm, Willem Annapolder II Wind Farm (WAP II).
This wind farm will consist of 4 Vestas turbines with a capacity of 4.5 MW each. This is double the capacity with fewer turbines. Final completion is scheduled for late 2025.
The energy cooperative Zeeuwind (43.6% ), Triodos and Ronnie Rijk, the owners of the old wind farm, will remain as owners of the new wind farm. Zeeuwind, manages the farm and will also manage the future farm.
Dismantling
The dismantling of the old wind turbines is carried out by Sagro and Iver. After the dismantling of the 1st turbine, the associated foundation will be demolished immediately. The first construction work is expected to start for WAP II at the end of September 2024. Contractor GMB, together with Van den Heuvel, is responsible for the Balance on Plant.
From April 2025, the remaining nine wind turbines will be dismantled and the associated foundations demolished. If everything goes according to plan, the actual construction of the wind farm will take place in the summer of 2025.
Lighthouse Projects BV supported the developer throughout the preparation phase, from technical, permit and contract management to project financing. In addition, Lighthouse Projects BV, together with Lighthouse Energy Support B.V., is from now on responsible for the project, construction and site management of both the dismantling and construction of the new wind farm.
Cable pooling
The owners also want to realise a solar farm at the new wind farm that uses the same cable capacity as the wind farm. They are at an advanced stage with Kapelle municipality in terms of preparing a permit application for this solar project. Earlier this year, the municipality already granted a decision in principle for the development. Source: Lighthouse Projects / Zeeuwind
