Zeewolde Wind Farm appoints new director

Windpark Zeewolde BV, owner of the Zeewolde Wind Farm in the outlying area of Zeewolde, in the Dutch province Flevoland, has appointed a new director. Maarten de Keijzer will take over from current director Sjoerd Sieburgh Sjoerdsma, who will stay on until the end of 2024 to ensure a smooth transition.

Since 2018, Sjoerd Sieburgh Sjoerdsma was director of the 320 MW Zeewolde Wind Farm, a unique collaboration between more than 200 farmers, residents and turbine owners in the outlying area of Zeewolde. The wind farm, a repowering project whereby 220 single wind turbines are replaced by 83 new, more powerful turbines in 6 line positions, was officially opened in 2022.

Under Sieburgh Sjoerdsma’s leadership, the wind farm was successfully built, a battery project developed, and a permit applied for a hydrogen plant. Now that these goals have been achieved, it is time for a new phase under the leadership of De Keijzer, a seasoned professional with more than 24 years of experience in wind energy. He previously held positions at Vestas and was founder of the consulting company Outsmart, and has since developed several wind farms.

Sieburgh Sjoerdsma on the appointment: “We are delighted to have Maarten de Keijzer as our new managing director. His years of experience and expertise within wind energy are exactly what is needed to take the wind farm to the next phase.”

New director De Keijzer is looking forward to the future: “Windpark Zeewolde is entering a new phase. In 2026, together with our area, we will remove about 150 obsolete turbines, which was the basic condition for the installation of 83 new turbines. These new turbines are better integrated into the landscape and generate almost three times as much energy as the old turbines. As an area initiative, we are committed to working with our community to make this project a success.” Source: Windpark Zeewolde Image: Sjoerd Sieburgh and Maarten de Keijzer.
