Sif produces first Empire Wind 1 monopile at newly expanded facilities at Maasvlakte 2

Sif today announced the successful manufacturing of the first monopile for the Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project in US waters at their newly expanded facilities at Maasvlakte 2, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Empire Wind 1 is a project by Equinor and will feature 54 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 810 MW. The first of 54 monopiles was completed on 28 November 2024. Production of the monopiles and transition pieces for Empire Wind 1 is on track for Q1 2025, with shipment to the USA for offshore installation near New York.

Empire Wind 1 is part of the larger Empire Wind project, located 15-30 miles southeast of Long Island, which also includes the 1,260 MW Empire Wind 2 project. Empire Wind 1 will be America’s first offshore wind project to plug directly into the New York City grid with a target to deliver first power in late 2026.
