160 decommissioned wind turbine blades will serve as a facade element of a new innovative car park to be built at Flight Forum business park in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
In a construction team selection, Continental Car Parks was chosen as construction team partner for the development of a new car park at business park Flight Forum in Eindhoven. The company was commissioned to design and engineer the new building with 900 parking spaces spread over five floors. The new parking facility expands the number of parking spaces and concentrates parking in one location, a wish Flight Forum expressed in the transformation they are making.
Circular design
The company also wanted to make a statement on sustainability and innovation with this car park. The design of the car park, made in collaboration with architecture firm MVRDV, includes a unique and sustainable facade. The high-profile facade is made of about 160 decommissioned wind turbine blades. To this end, cooperation was sought with the company Blade-Made, together with Super-Use, creator of unique solutions, for the reuse of wind turbine blades as a building element.
The undulating pattern of the blades together with the curves of the building create a unique and innovative appearance. The car park will be a real eye-catcher at this prominent sight location, as all traffic to and from Eindhoven Airport and the thousands of people working in the area will drive past this building on a daily basis. Flight Forum is being guided in this process by Accent consultants.
