Boskalis has completed their inter-array cable laying scope for 2024 at Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 3 Offshore Wind Farm in the German section of the North Sea.
Over the past few months, Boskalis’ vessels have worked on the installation and burial of dozens of inter-array cables. The company deployed its cable-laying vessel BOKA Ocean and multipurpose offshore vessel Ndeavor for the task. Both vessels went through a conversion before being deployed at Borkum Riffgrund 3.
The BOKA Ocean was a pipe-laying vessel when Boskalis acquired the vessel a year ago. Subsequently it was converted into a state-of-the-art cable-laying vessel by Boskalis’ Fleet Management and Central Fleet Support departments.
Ndeavor also had to be converted for the Borkum Riffgrund 3 project, having previously been used as a support vessel for SMIT Salvage during the salvage of the FSO Safer in Yemen.
The cable laying project for Borkum Riffgrund 3 has been divided into several campaigns. In Early 2024 BOKA Ocean installed 24 cables and later in 2024 another 15 cables were installed. Boskalis said the company will return to Ørsted’s wind farm next year to install the final cables.
The Borkum Riffgrund 3 campaign is part of a larger contract Boskalis secured in 2021. This contract also includes the installation of inter-array cables for Ørsted’s Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm. The contract includes the transport, installation and burial of a combined total of 106 inter-array cables.Source: Boskalis Images: ©Herman IJsseling
