First pile driven for Dutch onshore wind Farm Willem Annapolder II

On Thursday 9 January, the 1st pile was driven for the construction of the 4 foundations of Willem Annapolder II Wind Farm, a repowering project in the Dutch municipality of Kapelle, in the province of Zeeland.

Willem Annapolder II is an initiative of the Dutch energy cooperative Zeeuwind, Triodos Bank and Ronnie Rijk. The wind farm comprises 4 Vestas wind turbines, type V150, each with a capacity of 4.5 MW. The initiators of the wind farm reached financial close in April this year.

The construction of the foundations is being handled by GMB and is scheduled to be completed before the summer. After this, Vestas can start installing the new wind turbines. Van den Heuvel Infrastructuur voor Water & Energie will install the park cabling and connect the turbines to the electricity grid.

Repowering

The four wind turbines will replace the original 10 NEG Micon turbines from 2003. Decommissioning of these old wind turbines started in August this year. Together, the new wind turbines will generate over 3 times more power.

Completion is scheduled for the end of 2025. Odido Netherlands will purchase the power produced for the next 10 years after completion. Zeeuwind will manage the future farm, as was previosly the case with the old wind farm. Lighthouse Projects BV will take on the complete project management once the new wind farm is operational.
